FAQs

Q: So many terms  coaching, corporate coaching, personal development coaching, business life coaching, executive coaching and employee coaching  what's the difference?

A: In our book, they're the same. They describe how we help clients recognise and realise their potential.

Q: What's so good about the Right Bus Life Coaching service?

A: It uses the Three Journeys System which draws together Mervin Straughan's years of coaching individuals in house and as a consultant. It invites the client to see life as three bus journeys served by an interchange. Planning begins for the next of life's journeys takes place at the interchange.

As well as identifying which journey the client is now on and which journey they need to make, it enables them to understand where they've come from and to recognise their achievements to date. Big and small.

The approach also challenges clients to ask themselves if their purpose, values and skills are working together and takes into account how our personal and professional lives are linked. An action in one area is likely to impact another.

Q: How many sessions are involved?

A: Experience tells us that a short programme of three to four sessions works well though, occasionally, additional check-in sessions are useful.

The process begins with a discussion about expectations and an explanation of the roles of the coach and the client. We follow this with a session to help the client clarify the core areas to address. We then help the client develop a process for setting and working towards goals. Goals are important because they provide an outcome to aim for and something to help us monitor and celebrate progress, however, the emphasis is on the journey itself.

We then have sessions to monitor and review progress.

Q: Where does the life coaching take place?

A: Usually at your business premises.

Q: What level of individual does Right Bus Life Coaching work with?

A: From executives and managers to grass-roots employees who their organisation believes would benefit from a life coaching programme.

Q: Does Right Bus Life Coaching only provide life coaching services to businesses?

A: Yes. Right Bus Life Coaching's core offering is life coaching for business clients. It can also provide expertise in communications, engagement and corporate social responsibility.

Q. Do you walk the talk and use a coach yourself?

A. Yes. The Association for Coaching encourages members to participate in co-coaching sessions, gaining new perspectives and developing new techniques. This enables us to understand the client perspective.

Q: Is coaching the same as mentoring?

A: We see it as different. In our book, it isn't the place of the life coach to advise or instruct a client on what to do about the issues they're facing. The life coach is an enabler who uses on effective listening and questioning to help the client clarify where they are and map out a route to where they need to be. A mentor tends to be someone with knowledge of the client's sector or their area of expertise and who can give direct advice.

Life coaching is a tool for enabling clients to realise their potential. The client is encouraged to consider all aspects of their life and identify areas to change. The focus is on ensuring that the client chooses the outcome and takes the action to make it happen.

Q: What are your prices for business life coaching/corporate coaching/executive coaching/employee coaching services?

A: These are available on request. A typical package will involve up to four sessions.

Q: Where is Right Bus Life Coaching based?

A: North Yorkshire but we operate anywhere we're needed.
